From Cllr Peter Christie

Church congregations and incomes are in decline across much of the country yet their buildings are some of the glories our landscape. How then are they to be maintained?

Here in Bideford the ‘Friends of St.Mary’s church’ has been set up with the aim of raising funds to keep the fabric of the church in good order. Their first event is to be held on Saturday 26th March in St.Mary’s from 6.30.

This will see Country Life Brewery offering some ‘handcrafted local ales with strange sounding names’ for tasting and a talk by me entitled ‘Sex, Slander and the Church in Elizabethan North Devon’.

Entrance is £5 or, if you join the Friends, will be free both to this and future events.
