The news that the submarine cable manufacturer XLCC has signed a contract to use British steel to make the cables linking renewable energy production in Morocco to Alverdiscott would seem to show the scheme is viable.
The first of four cables, each 2361 miles long, should be in place around 2026 – great news and it does answer the question as to whether this proposal was real or merely a pipe dream.
Real it may be but why is Alverdisccott being used rather than somewhere on the South coast of Devon much closer to Morocco – does anyone know?
