Over the years many letters have appeared in the Journal opposing renewable energy.
Ranging in tone from hysterical to the serious they were all written at a time when energy supplies were taken for granted. This, of course, is no longer true and the South West now faces a real crisis in that EDF, the French operator of Hinkley nuclear power station, has announced they will be permanently closing the 2 reactors of Hinkley B by August.
Their removal from the grid will put huge pressure on energy supplies in the South West – and given that the planned new Hinkley reactor is hugely behind schedule and over budget one wonders if we could see electricity rationed in this area.
