You might not have seen a piece of ‘good news’ for our MP Geoffrey Cox.
Last year the Prime Minister pledged to clamp down on MPs who had lucrative and very time-consuming second jobs, following the furore over Geoffrey’s massive income acting as a barrister whilst also nominally a full-time MP – £6 million and counting.
Now, however, the government has announced that any cap on time spent on these jobs or earnings would be ‘impractical’ and it looks fairly certain such caps will not be imposed – so Geoffrey may well be allowed to continue as our part-time MP. Thank goodness, however, that it is practical to cap any earnings people on benefits might try to bring in to improve their lives.
